He personally experienced the impact of our city's violence epidemic, having to hold his wife, April, as they buried their nephew in the aftermath of a mass shooting. For Sharif, making Philadelphia a better place to live isn't just a slogan — it's personal. Today, Sharif and his wife are still in North Philadelphia. He's a father of five, and grandfather of six — fighting to make his neighbors' lives better by delivering affordable health care, lower prices, and safer streets to families who are struggling to make ends meet and being forced to choose between paying the rent or putting food on the table. Sharif was raised as part of a civil rights movement family. Born to union school teacher Helen Street Mosee and former Mayor John Street, he draws on a legacy of public service, learning early that progress only comes when people are willing to stand up, organize and fight for their communities. That legacy instilled in Sharif a belief that public service is not about position or title, but about responsibility — showing up, listening, and delivering results for the people you serve. After earning his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Sharif served as the Chief Legislative Advisor to the Democratic Chair of the Housing and Urban Development Committee, where he facilitated the creation of Philadelphia Green Communities, the first environmental educational program of its kind implemented in a major U.S. city. In 2016, Sharif made history as the first Muslim elected to the Pennsylvania Senate, where he authored and led the creation of Pennie, Pennsylvania's state-based health insurance exchange, expanding access to affordable health care and lowering insurance costs for hundreds of thousands of families. Sharif has also been a leading advocate for ending the failed war on cannabis. For decades, outdated marijuana laws have disproportionately harmed Black and brown communities — fueling mass incarceration and blocking economic opportunity, especially in neighborhoods like North Philadelphia. Chris Rabb have proven themselves to be wildly unprepared to represent Philadelphia in Congress. Stanford was unable to answer a question about ICE and immigration enforcement, asking NBC 10's Lauren Mayk to "pause" her interview so she could think of an answer, then suggesting Congress, not the executive branch, should be responsible for patrolling the border. Voters should also know the Philadelphia Inquirer has raised significant questions about the management of her non-profit, which was funded by nearly $13 million in public funds. An examination of the organization's tax returns showed serious gaps in recordkeeping, particularly related to $962,000 in unreported compensation to Stanford. Voters should additionally know Stanford has funded her campaign with a personal loan of $250,000. REP. CHRIS RABB Voters should know Chris Rabb has been more focused on conspiracy theories and divisiveness than delivering for Philadelphians. Over 10 years in the state legislature, he has never passed a bill with his name on it. Rabb recently voted against Pennsylvania's minimum wage, later saying his no vote was a mistake. At the same time, he has adopted increasingly extreme positions, refusing to fight bigotry and violence. Rabb would not condemn a Center City rally where protesters flew Hamas flags, hung soldiers in effigy, and called for terrorism and violent action in the United States, but he does condemn the Democratic Party for supporting legislation to combat hate crimes, including laws like the Emmett Till Antilynching Act. On April 30, Rabb hosted a fundraiser with problematic Twitch personality Hasan Piker. Piker has made numerous statements supporting Hamas, downplaying rape and sexual violence, and even saying the U.S. "deserved 9/11." Rabb himself has shared anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on social media, including a post implying the murder of Jews at Bondi Beach in Australia was a Zionist-orchestrated false flag attack. SHARIF STREET'S RECORD Finally, voters should know Sharif Street is the only candidate who has delivered real, progressive results for Pennsylvanians. He authored the law that created Pennie, Pennsylvania's Obamacare exchange, which currently helps 486,000 Pennsylvanians access affordable health insurance. Chris Rabb have proven themselves to be wildly unprepared to represent Philadelphia in Congress. Stanford was unable to answer a question about ICE and immigration enforcement, asking NBC 10's Lauren Mayk to "pause" her interview so she could think of an answer, then suggesting Congress, not the executive branch, should be responsible for patrolling the border. Voters should also know the Philadelphia Inquirer has raised significant questions about the management of her non-profit, which was funded by nearly $13 million in public funds. An examination of the organization's tax returns showed serious gaps in recordkeeping, particularly related to $962,000 in unreported compensation to Stanford. Voters should additionally know Stanford has funded her campaign with a personal loan of $250,000. REP. CHRIS RABB Voters should know Chris Rabb has been more focused on conspiracy theories and divisiveness than delivering for Philadelphians. Over 10 years in the state legislature, he has never passed a bill with his name on it. Rabb recently voted against Pennsylvania's minimum wage, later saying his no vote was a mistake. At the same time, he has adopted increasingly extreme positions, refusing to fight bigotry and violence. Rabb would not condemn a Center City rally where protesters flew Hamas flags, hung soldiers in effigy, and called for terrorism and violent action in the United States, but he does condemn the Democratic Party for supporting legislation to combat hate crimes, including laws like the Emmett Till Antilynching Act. On April 30, Rabb hosted a fundraiser with problematic Twitch personality Hasan Piker. Piker has made numerous statements supporting Hamas, downplaying rape and sexual violence, and even saying the U.S. "deserved 9/11." Rabb himself has shared anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on social media, including a post implying the murder of Jews at Bondi Beach in Australia was a Zionist-orchestrated false flag attack. SHARIF STREET'S RECORD Finally, voters should know Sharif Street is the only candidate who has delivered real, progressive results for Pennsylvanians. He authored the law that created Pennie, Pennsylvania's Obamacare exchange, which currently helps 486,000 Pennsylvanians access affordable health insurance. He has secured $300 million annually for gun violence prevention programs, resulting in the lowest homicide rate the city has seen in more than 60 years. And voters should know Street has taken on Donald Trump, suing him more than a dozen times and winning every time. Sharif was raised as part of a civil rights movement family. Born to union school teacher Helen Street Mosee and former Mayor John Street, he draws on a legacy of public service, learning early that progress only comes when people are willing to stand up, organize and fight for their communities. That legacy instilled in Sharif a belief that public service is not about position or title, but about responsibility — showing up, listening, and delivering results for the people you serve. Chris Rabb have proven themselves to be wildly unprepared to represent Philadelphia in Congress. Stanford was unable to answer a question about ICE and immigration enforcement, asking NBC 10's Lauren Mayk to "pause" her interview so she could think of an answer, then suggesting Congress, not the executive branch, should be responsible for patrolling the border. Voters should also know the Philadelphia Inquirer has raised significant questions about the management of her non-profit, which was funded by nearly $13 million in public funds. An examination of the organization's tax returns showed serious gaps in recordkeeping, particularly related to $962,000 in unreported compensation to Stanford. Voters should additionally know Stanford has funded her campaign with a personal loan of $250,000. REP. CHRIS RABB Voters should know Chris Rabb has been more focused on conspiracy theories and divisiveness than delivering for Philadelphians. Over 10 years in the state legislature, he has never passed a bill with his name on it. Rabb recently voted against Pennsylvania's minimum wage, later saying his no vote was a mistake. At the same time, he has adopted increasingly extreme positions, refusing to fight bigotry and violence. Rabb would not condemn a Center City rally where protesters flew Hamas flags, hung soldiers in effigy, and called for terrorism and violent action in the United States, but he does condemn the Democratic Party for supporting legislation to combat hate crimes, including laws like the Emmett Till Antilynching Act. On April 30, Rabb hosted a fundraiser with problematic Twitch personality Hasan Piker. Piker has made numerous statements supporting Hamas, downplaying rape and sexual violence, and even saying the U.S. "deserved 9/11." Rabb himself has shared anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on social media, including a post implying the murder of Jews at Bondi Beach in Australia was a Zionist-orchestrated false flag attack. SHARIF STREET'S RECORD Finally, voters should know Sharif Street is the only candidate who has delivered real, progressive results for Pennsylvanians. He authored the law that created Pennie, Pennsylvania's Obamacare exchange, which currently helps 486,000 Pennsylvanians access affordable health insurance. He has secured $300 million annually for gun violence prevention programs, resulting in the lowest homicide rate the city has seen in more than 60 years. And voters should know Street has taken on Donald Trump, suing him more than a dozen times and winning every time.
