Week 0

In the final week, the truth about McKinney needs to be heavily amplified to young voters and voters Downriver.

Voters need to see on broadcast, cable, mail, and on the go who Donovan McKinney really is: a politician who sides with Republicans against Democrats, and who has been bankrolled by a big MAGA donor and interest groups.

1. The money: McKinney’s campaign has been funded¹ by MAGA donor Matthew Moroun, the price-gouging billionaire owner of Ambassador Bridge, who gave $1 million to Trump’s Super PAC in 2026². Additionally, McKinney has taken thousands of dollars in campaign donations from corporate lobbying firms³ for big banks⁴, Pharma⁵, Big Oil⁶, and tech giants⁷ who want him to do their bidding.

2. The votes: It’s not just who funds McKinney’s campaign; it’s how he votes against us in office. McKinney votes with Republicans, against Democrats, to oppose measures to make life more affordable. While people are struggling, McKinney voted against⁸ raising the minimum wage⁹¹⁰, against¹¹ expanding paid sick leave¹²¹³, and against¹⁴ creating more affordable housing¹⁵¹⁶¹⁷ – and he’s gotten it wrong on gun violence, voting against¹⁸¹⁹²⁰²¹²² cracking down on felons who kill children in drive-by shootings²³, like 3-year-old Messiah Williams, who was killed in Flint. McKinney, in 2026, voted against²⁴²⁵ increasing “penalties for shootings into occupied homes or cars, including life without parole if a child is killed.”²⁶ The bill package was named “Messiah’s Law” after three-year-old Messiah Williams, who was “shot and killed when gunfire tore into his home” in 2020.²⁷

Absentee ballots are mailed June 25, so voters will need to see who McKinney really is as they are casting their ballots.

Additionally, during the final weeks, voters over 50 need to read about how wrong McKinney is on gun violence.

Congressman Shri Thanedar’s accomplishments

Voters should also know that Congressman Shri Thanedar has been a fighter. He has stood up to Trump, ICE, fought for progressive policies, and fights for the district and delivers.

Shri is a member of the Democratic Progressive Caucus and supports ending Citizens United so we can pass bold, progressive policies like Medicare for All, taxing billionaires their fair share, and forgiving student debt.

Shri is leading the fight against ICE. He introduced the “Abolish ICE ACT”, introduced legislation to end qualified immunity for ICE agents, called for Secretary Kristi Noem’s impeachment, and fought an ICE facility in Romulus which was eventually shut down.

Shri is delivering for our district. He’s brought home millions of dollars to replace lead pipes, fund infrastructure projects and road repairs, and help create good-paying jobs. And he successfully helped 4,222 constituents resolve issues with Medicare, veterans’ benefits, and more.

Updated July 16, 2026

Democratic primary voters in Michigan need to know that Congressman Shri Thanedar is doing the work: he is standing up to
Donald Trump, pushing accountability for Trump officials, voting against Republican attacks on health care and food assistance, and
introducing legislation that puts working people, immigrants, seniors, and small businesses first.



Pete Hegseth, and Pam Bondi, including Axios, CBS Detroit, Michigan Advance, C-SPAN, and the Washington Post.

Republicans supported the bill; national coverage warned the GOP package could mean deep Medicaid losses and automatic
Medicare cuts.
Thanedar is using legislation to force the debate. Public records and earned media show work on the Abolish ICE Act, ending

VIII. SAMPLE VOTER-FACING LANGUAGE

Health care / Medicare contrast: Donald Trump and House Republicans pushed a budget bill that threatened health care, Medicaid,
food assistance, and Medicare. Congressman Shri Thanedar voted no. When Michigan Republicans backed the bill, Thanedar stood
with seniors, working families, and people who depend on affordable care.

Trump accountability: Congressman Shri Thanedar is doing what Democrats should do: standing up to Donald Trump. He brought
articles of impeachment, called for Trump’s removal under the 25th Amendment, and defended Detroit voters when Trump targeted
Detroit’s ballots.

Cabinet accountability: Thanedar did not just call out Trump. He went after the officials carrying out Trump’s agenda - pushing
accountability for Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, and Pam Bondi when they abused power or failed the public trust.

Workers / costs: Thanedar is fighting to make the tax code work for people who work for a living. His agenda includes tax relief for
fired workers and protecting strike pay so workers are not punished for standing up on the picket line.

Small business: As a former entrepreneur, Thanedar knows small businesses need capital to grow. That is why he helped introduce
the bipartisan LIONS Act to expand SBA 7(a) loan access for neighborhood businesses and entrepreneurs.
